Acne Scarring

WHAT IS ACNE SCARRING
Stress, a poor diet, environmental pollution, and hormonal fluctuations can all cause the skin to break out. Most of us have had the occasional pimple erupt before a big date or experienced "problem" skin at that time of the month. In the worst cases, some have dealt with a serious acne condition that required medical attention.

Even a minor blemish, if squeezed too vigorously, can leave behind a scar. But, in the case of acne, the residual scarring can be severe. All scars are the result of an excess of collagen at the site of a healed wound, but unlike other types of scars, the wounds caused by acne occur within the dermis. So the scar is within the skin, rather than on its surface. Post-acne sufferers may feel embarrassed by the appearance of their scars, and this can lead to self-consciousness, lowered self-esteem, and awkwardness in social situations—not a pleasant way to live!

If you have acne scars and want to lessen their appearance, there are treatment options available that don’t require a visit to the doctor. A chemical peel is a topical solution applied to the skin. The peel dissolves the epidermis or top layer of skin cells, spurring the growth of new tissue and improving the skin’s look and texture. Alpha hydroxy (AHA) and glycolic acids are commonly used for this purpose; various concentrations are applied weekly or at longer intervals to obtain the best results. AHA and glycolic acid can also be mixed in lesser concentrations with a facial wash or cream, as part of a daily skin-care regimen to improve the texture of the complexion.

ACNE SCARRING TREATMENTS
.Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which microscopic particles are used to "sand" or "polish" the skin. Gradually, over several treatments, the scarred epidermal tissue is literally polished away. As the outermost surface of the skin is partially or completely removed by gentle abrasion, this helps to eliminate acne scars. The turnover of surface cells is enhanced, and the skin becomes visibly fresher. The procedure is not painful and usually requires no anesthetic

Be Gentle To Your Skin

Sometimes we do things a certain way just because “that’s the way we’ve always done it”. This is true even in our skin care routines sometimes. You may try a new product here and there if you think it will make a big difference but ultimately, you don’t change the basics like how you wash [...]

Glycolic Acid vs. Salicylic Acid – Which Works Better as an Acne Treatment?

A chemical skin peel is an effective method used to rejuvenate the skin, treat acne, and improve the skin’s overall appearance. While glycolic facial peels and salicylic acid peels were at one time solely performed by dermatologists, physicians, or skin care professionals, there are now at home peels which are just as effective and yet [...]

Do Lactic Acid Face Peels Work on Acne Scars?

What is the Difference in Chemical Peel Treatments vs. Microdermabrasion Treatments?

Both chemical peel treatments and microdermabrasion treatments are used to resurface and exfoliate the skin. The treatments work in different ways to achieve similar results. Microdermabrasion is recommended to improve superficial skin imperfections. This includes mild acne scars, age spots or sun spots, enlarged or visible pores, and fine lines. A chemical peel, whether it is [...]

Home Microdermabrasion vs. Professional Microdermabrasion Treatments

Microdermabrasion is a type of treatment for the skin in which tiny crystals are applied to the skin to remove the top layer by “sanding” or “polishing”. The microdermabrasion crystals work to remove the dead surface layer of skin cells to uncover a healthier layer of skin underneath. Personal microdermabrasion treatments work to stimulate the [...]
